-Brainstorm a range of information sources to meet a specific information need

Materials Description and Training -

-Scienctific Method powerpoint
-laptops w/ Internet and powerpoint

Scope and Sequence:

Day 1: Students will research about the Scientific Method, using the computers. The students will brainstorm a problem and then have it approved by the teacher. Students will test out their problems by completing a short and simple experiment.

Day 2: Then the students will work independently or with a partner to create a powerpoint presentation exploring their problem using the Scientific Method.

Day 3: The students will present their powerpoints to their classmates.

Supplemental Materials – The students will be given either a worksheet of the Scientific Method or they can watch the teacher’s powerpoint presentation on their laptops, it will be made available to them through the teach out folder.

Evaluation of Students – When completed, the students will be evaluated based on their presentation, Power Point slides, and information presented using the attached rubric.

Criteria
3 points
2 points
1 point
Powerpoint Completed all 6 slides, organized and understandable. All slides completed, but unorganized and not clear. Completed some slides, unorganized and not clear.
Personal Responsibility of the use of computer Used the computer responsibly and followed all activity instructions Used the computer somewhat responsibly need some reminders to continue activity. Did not use the computer responsibly. Needed multiple reminders to continue activity.
Content Contained the required amount of slides and correct information about the Scientific Method. Missing a couple slides and the information is not all correct. Missing more than half the required slides and the information is not correct.

Evaluation of the Lesson – When all students have completed this activity, the lesson will be evaluated with regards to the students’ abilities understand the concept of the Scientific Method and the use of powerpoint, also their abilities to present information.

Rational for Using the Medium – Most of middle school science curriculums are inquiry based, all students need and should understand that a lot of problems can be explored using the Scientific Method. The Scientific Method will be used throughout the year to complete labs.
